On Day 6, I must say that I am thankful that I live in the United States of America and can vote. We are so lucky in that we live in a democracy and that we can vote for our Country’s leader! It wasn’t too long ago that women weren’t able to vote.
Many men and women have died for our right to vote. There are still many women and men who die everyday fighting for our freedom and right to vote. If there’s one thing you do today, VOTE! I don’t care if you vote Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, just vote. Exercise your right. Don’t be lazy.
I know I haven’t blogged in a while, I’ve been focusing on finishing my last semester in college! I’ve been going at this for a while, and in December I will finally graduate!!! I have to say, that as a non-traditional, adult student, it’s definitely been a challenge, some
days weeks were really tough, but I know it will be well worth it in the end! Also, as an adult student, you appreciate it more and take school much more seriously, especially if you’re paying for it yourself!
Anyways, it seems everyone is counting down to Thanksgiving with days of thanks!
Here’s my catch up post… (though I have been posting on FB)
Day 1- I’m thankful for a roof over my head and running water. I remember reading a while ago that there were so many impoverished countries with no running water. I know we take for granted everyday that we have a home, our ability to use the bathroom or take a shower… I’ve seen the poor in India and there were so many with so little-nothing. And with Hurricane Sandy, I know there are some people suffering in the North East.
Day 2- I’m thankful for my family, without them I would not be who I am am today. We’re one crazy and passionate bunch, but I wouldn’t change it for anything!
Day 3- I’m thankful for my darling husband. For all his support in everything. He’s my best friend and with out him, I’m not sure if I’d be finishing up school. I might have starved from being to busy to cook and eat or something crazy. I love him! 🙂
Day 4- I am thankful for my faith. In my weakest moments I always turn to my faith. I think its so important that everyone has something to believe in. My faith has gotten me through some of my darkest and hardest times.
Day 5- I am thankful for my siblings, especially my brother, Chris. He is my lil brother and I couldn’t imagine growing up without him. We had a lot of fun times and lots of “sibling” times. Even when he used to lock himself in the other room that had the phone and listen to my conversations with my girlfriends or even boyfriends. This would be when we still had wall phones. And my lil sister, Joce and Jon, we didn’t grow up together, but I love them none the less!!!
Are you doing a Thanksgiving countdown? What are you thankful for?
Happy Fourth of July to you and yours!
May we always remember and honor those who give and fight to protect our freedom everyday! It’s not all about the booze and burgers, so take a minute and thank a soldier, thank a vet, and say a prayer for those who gave all…
We will be having a get together at our house with a bunch of friends and family. We’re grilling out burgers and wings. But even better: we’re steaming up a bushel of crabs!!!! (My favorite!!!) I’m sure I’ll have pictures to share later this week! Enjoy the Fourth!
Everyone stay cool out there on this hot, hot, hot, July 4th and be safe!
Today is a day that we remember and honor our fathers…
Though my dad doesn’t like to celebrate anything (it drives Tom and I crazy because we WANT to spend time with him), I still celebrate him!
He’s impossible to get time with because he’s so busy with his hobby, and he’s so private with his life. (i sure hope he makes some time for us when we have kids 🙂 )
My father was my first hero. (doesn’t he look like Bruce Lee here?) I remember as a kid, sitting right next to my dad on the couch watching TV. I was daddy’s girl. I always wanted to be close to my dad. I used to like to watch him whenever he was working on the car or fixing something. I wanted to be just like him and fix things. In fact, I actually got in trouble once when I took apart the radio, trying to see what was in the radio making the music…I wanted to see “the people in the radio”.
My father was a single dad raising 2 kids- myself and my younger brother. He worked very hard to make sure we were taken care of. He sacrificed to put us through Catholic private school because he wanted to make sure we had the best education. (Thanks Dad!) Where some dads could have easily said, “Do whatever you want, I don’t care what you do with your life”, he cared and was involved. He could have easily gotten re-married, but instead chose his 2 young kids as his priority. I look back and think what a decision and what a task that was… Especially in my emotionally driven, hormone crazy, teenage years… I don’t know how he put up with me… I was terrible and so rebellious… (HAHA I would have sent me away somewhere -just kidding) I didn’t realize how much my dad gave until years after I had moved out of the house. Teenage blindness.
My dad is an amazing person… humble beyond belief, honest, hard working, a great father, a philosopher, a sacrificer, forgiving, simple, a man of his word, and smart. I love my dad with all my heart, and though he doesn’t want to celebrate his birthday, father’s day, or any other holiday (because he doesn’t want any attention), I celebrate him anyways!
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY DAD!!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!
A happy father’s day to my father-in-law as well! 🙂 I made him his favorite cake: Coconut cake! YUM! All because I love him! 🙂 We celebrated last night with all the Barto boys (his sons) and our friends Skip and Katherine and their son Trey. It’s Skip’s first father’s day! YAY!!! All in all, It was good night!
And last but not least, my stepfather. He’s another great guy… He totally makes my mom happy. Though I’ve never lived with him as my dad, I still celebrate him for being the dad to his step kids- my brother Jon and my sister Jocelyn. I know that he tries to be a dad to them. 🙂 Love you!
Happy father’s day to all your fathers and any fathers that are reading my blog! 🙂
Happy Easter Ya’ll!!!
We’ve headed down to the Outer Banks to our family beach house for some family fun time! 🙂
Here is the Four Sea Sons (jt’s available for rentals) More Info.
To get festive for Easter, I painted my nails to look like Easter eggs:
We’re headed down with Tom’s Mom and dad, 3 brothers, and his cousins and her 2 kiddos. Personally, I love going down in the off season… less traffic, and not too many tourists. The only thing about this trip is that it was a bit chilly- not warm enough to lay on the beach and get some rays.
Some poor kid lost their ball, it came blowing down the beach at warp speed… (no kids to be seen), and I ran and saved the ball!!! Then proceeded to have some fun with it:
We did some shopping, had dinner and are prepping for Easter tomorrow! 🙂
Good times in the OBX…. Enjoy some more pictures of the day… (click on the image to be taken to the slideshow)
His talent was found when his wife asked him to capture a picture of the ocean for their bedroom wall.
What amazing pictures!!!

What are you going to do today to celebrate World Water day?
Not wash your jeans? Take a shorter shower? Turn off your sprinklers?
Try to do one thing today that will reduce your water footprint.
I love our ocean and I support World Water Day and anything that helps our oceans and everything living in it!
